THE SPIRIT OF A GREYHOUND
I
was standing on a hillside
In a field of blowing wheat,
And the spirit of a Greyhound
Was lying at my feet.
He
looked at me with kind dark eyes,
Ancient wisdom shining through.
In the essence of his being,
I saw the love there too.
His
mind did lock upon my heart
As I stood there on that day,
And he told me of this story
About a place so far away.
As
I stood upon that hillside
In a field of blowing wheat,
In a twinkling of a second
His spirit left my feet.
His
tale did put my heart at ease,
All my fears did fade away
About what lay ahead of me
On another distant day.
"I
live among God's creatures now
In the heavens of your mind,
So do not grieve for me, my friend
As I am with my kind.
My
collar is a rainbow's hue,
My leash is a shooting star.
My boundaries are the Milky Way
Where I sparkle from afar.
There
are no pens or kennels here
For I am not confined,
But I'm free to roam God's heavens
Among the Greyhound kind.
I
nap the day on a snowy cloud
Gentle breezes rocking me,
And dream the dreams of earthlings,
And how it used to be.
The
trees are full of liver treats,
And tennis balls abound,
And milkbones line the walkways
Just waiting to be found.
There
even is a ring set up,
The grass all lush and green;
And everyone who gaits around
Becomes the Best of Breed.
For
we're all winners in this place;
We have no faults, you see.
And god passes out those ribbons
To each one, even me.
I
drink from waters laced with gold,
My world a beauty to behold;
And wise old dogs do form my pride
To amble at my very side.
At
night I sleep in angel's arms,
Her wings protecting me,
And moonbeams dance about us
As stardust falls on thee.
So
when your life on earth is spent
And you stand at Heaven's gate,
Have no fear of loneliness--
For here, you know, I wait.

Merlin
(Paxton BLT), 11-17-92 to 1-2-04.
Merlin,
you were our first Greyhound. You captivated us, stole our hearts
and changed our lives. You were always the perfect gentleman, kind
and loving. If not for you there would be no GPA - New Mexcio Greyhound
Connection.
We dedicate this Memorial Page in your name to all Greyhounds who
have left us too soon, those known to us and those known only at
the Rainbow Bridge. We invite anyone who has a Grehound waiting
at the Bridge to memorialize their beloved Hound her.

Isis
(Flirting) 2-10-95 to 4-21-03.
Isis, you came into our lives after an almost disasterous
start in retirement. You walked into our home and our lives like
you owned us - you did. You ran the house and became the resident
Greyhound Goddess. Even though cancer took you from us too soon,
you stay in our hearts.

Phoenix,
1997 - 1/6/2001
We
never knew your registered name or where you came from. The kindness
of strangers saved you from a slow death by the side of the road,
and you blessed our lives for 8 months. You were truly loved and
are greatly missed.

Silk Rexford
"Be Silk"
Feb. 25, 2004
Silk
Rexford (BE SILK whelped 07/04/1993), beloved companion of Noel
and Margaret, adopted 09/15/1995 from Dairyland Greyhound Park Greyhound
Adoption Program, passed over into eternity at 11:10 A.M, February
25, 2004, of, and from complications caused by arthritis, a series
of strokes over the past few days, and miscellaneous ongoing health
problems. The attending Veterinarian was gracious enough to allow
Noel to embrace Silk as she passed. Please wish Silk well on her
eternal journey. She is now free of pain and suffering. Silk had
been under Veterinary care since her adoption. Silk always gave
her love freely, and allowed us to play with her when she had her
many, many joyous moments. If those of us who knew her are very,
very lucky, in the future we will be able to spend many joyous moments
with her in eternity. Silk was one of sweetest Greyhounds ever,
a trusted family member, wonderful traveler, and her passing leaves
a sad void in our lives and on this earth.

Stanley
Greyhound
"Standoff Stan"
(2/28/99 - 3/22/05)
Although
you were only in our lives for a short time, you brought us a
life time of love. We will miss your big goofy smile and your
voice when it was time to eat. We will miss your kisses and hugs
in the mornings and your dances in the afternoon when we would
come home. Thank you for being a little boys dog and playing with
him when no one else would. May you forever chase your bunnies
in the clouds at the rainbow bridge. We know you'll be waiting
for us. You will always be in our hearts and minds. Our hearts
are at peace knowing you will never feel pain. Thank you for being
our special dog. Thank you for loving us. Thank you for choosing
us to be your forever home. We will always love you Stanley Greyhound.
Love always,
Mike, Mickey, and your boy Austin

Reggie
"Krafty Reggie"
3/21/93 - 6/15/05
On June 15, 2005 Jerry and Candy Beck and Candy’s mother
Helen Collins said goodbye to Reggie. Reggie came to the family
as a foster dog and within less than 48 hours it was obvious that
Reggie would be there forever. Reggie was a perfect gentleman.
He had a wonderful heart and loved people and other dogs. The
morning of June 15th at about 2:00am Reggie struggling to get
up awakened the Becks. He could no longer use his front or rear
legs and was rushed to the Emergency Clinic. It was decided that
there was nothing that could be done for Reggie to “fix”
his problem and with his advanced years it would be kinder to
let him go. Reggie went peacefully to the Rainbow Bridge in the
loving arms of Candy and Jerry Beck at 5:00am that morning. Reggie
will be greatly missed and always loved.

C Katy
12/7/93 to 9/4/05
On Sept. 4, 2005 Jerry and Candy Beck and Candy’s Mother
Helen Collins said goodbye to Katy. Katy was a retired Brood Matron
who came into their hearts and home on July 18, 2003. Katy immediately
became the “head of the Greyhound herd”. Katy, with
an impressive racing career behind her, always enjoyed her daily
walks and made sure she was out in front never missing a thing.
Katy succumbed to cancer a few short months after her diagnosis
as she made her journey to the Bridge in the arms of Jerry and
Candy. Katy is much missed but will always remain in the hearts
of those who continue to love her.

Doc
Blue
5/14/95 to 9/5/2005
On Sept. 5,
2005 just a few short hours after saying goodbye to Katy the Beck
family rushed Doc Blue to the Emergency Vet. Doc was diagnosed with
liver failure due to a mass on or near his liver. There was no hope
for recovery and Doc slipped away to the Rainbow Bridge in the arms
of Jerry and Candy. Doc came to live with the Beck family on Sept.
3, 1998 as their second greyhound. Doc was always the silly, big
“bubba” greyhound. He was so sweet and gentle and a
food thief beyond compare. Doc’s passing was truly a shock
to the family especially following the loss of Katy just a few hours
before. Doc will always remain in the hearts of those who knew him
and loved him and will forever be their “big bubba brindle”.

Renegade
My dear and
beautiful 12 year-old Renegade died yesterday afternoon (Oct. 6th,
2006) here at home. He had fallen in the kitchen a week ago, breaking
his back leg, and was operated on the next day. From the beginning
he did not do well at the clinic and so I brought him home. We hoped
he would rally, but that was not to be. We miss him greatly. He
loved everyone; dog or human - even cats! I am devastated at the
loss because he had been so active and outgoing until his accident.
He was a wonderful friend and companion to me for the past 7 years.
He will never be forgotten!

EASY'S STARGAZER
Saturday morning,
Aug 5th, we had to say goodbye to our boy Star. Star and I shared
good times and bad for ten years. I held him in my arms and let
him have the rest he deserved.
In the mornings, he was my Morning Star. In the car with the oldies
blaring, he was me Rock Star. Star Man when he was being silly.
At all time he was and will continue to be the Star of my life.
My heart is beyond broken. My life will never be the same. Time
will help, but missing his sweet gentle face will never stop. He
protected me from thunder by running out in the yard and barking
at the sky until the thunder went away. His job was to herd all
the girls out for last potty call at night. And would stomp his
feet at 5:00 for his dinner. But we never understood his fascination
with Chris brushing his (Chris') teeth.
Star was our first Greyhound and was instrumental in us starting
an adoption program in El Paso. His gentle soul will be missed by
everyone that knew him. He is with our little Merci now at the bridge
and God willing, I will be with them again.

Wyco Neosho (Spider
Boy)
May 14, 2001 - Sept. 19, 2006
Wyco Neosho, affectionately known as "Spider Boy" passed
away on Sept. 19, 2006 due to complications from surgery to amputate
his infected leg.
Neosho was the last of the Juarez greyhounds waiting to come into
an adoption group and was scheduled to come to GPA-New Mexico Greyhound
Connection as soon as he was well enough to travel. Neosho was bitten
by a Brown Recluse spider while in the kennel in Juarez, Mexico.
He was brought back to the US on June 10 and immediately taken to
the Desert East Animal Hospital. He remained there under the care
of Dr. Rachel Klein. After almost healing, the bone in his left
hind leg, where he had been bitten, became infected again and his
leg was amputated.
While Neosho never made it to his forever home he knew much love
from the staff at Desert East and from Pat Roberts, Pres. GPA-El
Paso Lonestar Greyhounds who visited him constantly. Wyco Neosho
has now found his forever home at the Rainbow Bridge. Run with the
Angels Spider Boy you will live in our hearts forever.
